Hello!

Tanya Banerjee (she/her) is a multi-genre writer born in India, raised in the US, and currently based in Vancouver, B.C. Her writing explores the themes of interculturality, race, mental illness, and intergenerational trauma through characters of color.

Tanya has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia and an MA in Creative Writing: Prose Fiction from the University of East Anglia. You can find her writing, making and listening to music, reading, and drinking mochas, often simultaneously at a café.

She was shortlisted for the 2020 Orwell Dystopian Short Story Prize and placed as a semifinalist for the 2023 Vancouver International Women in Film Festival Screenplay competition. Tanya was also a 2022 Playwrights' Gym participant at Green Thumb Theatre and a 2023 Block A participant at Playwrights Theatre Centre.

She has worked as a Creative Writing and Arts instructor, a tutor, a tour guide, an editorial assistant intern, a university graduate teaching assistant, a communications coordinator, and more!

Time to switch to first-person...

  • I can speak three languages (English, Bengali, Spanish) and understand Hindi!

  • I can read Cyrillic alphabet-based languages...yet I don't understand any of them.

  • I'm an amateur latte artist! (Coffee is life.)

  • At one point, my family and I took care of 27 stray cats.

  • I produce and record my own songs!

  • Eurovision is life.

  • I punder about puns all day.
