Hello!

Tanya Banerjee (she/her) is a multi-genre writer, music artist, and educator born in India, raised in the US, and now based in Vancouver, B.C. Her writing explores the themes of interculturality, race, mental health, and intergenerational trauma through characters of color. Her music delves into love, relationships, and mental health.

Tanya has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia and an MA in Creative Writing: Prose Fiction from the University of East Anglia. You can find her writing, making and listening to music, reading, and drinking mochas, often simultaneously at a café.

Tanya was shortlisted for the Orwell Dystopian Short Story Prize; a Playwrights’ Gym participant at Green Thumb Theatre; a Block A participant at Playwrights Theatre Centre; a Creation Lab Playwright with the Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre (vAct), and has placed in or won several screenwriting competitions. Her fiction is published in Exclamat!on and Bloom: UEA Prose Fiction Anthology. She has released three self-produced albums: All The Fun Times; Sometimes, Rainbows; and Everlasting.

She has worked as a Creative Writing and Arts instructor, tour guide, editorial assistant intern, communications coordinator, university instructor, and more!

Fun Facts:

Time to switch to first-person...

  • I can speak three languages (English, Bengali, Spanish) and understand Hindi!

  • I can read Cyrillic alphabet-based languages...yet I don't understand any of them.

  • I'm an amateur latte artist! (Coffee is life.)

  • At one point, my family and I took care of 27 stray cats.

  • I produce and record my own songs!

  • Europop, and music in general, is life.

  • I punder about puns all day.
